Tacoma, Washington, Collaborative Divorce Attorney
The divorce process can bring out the worst qualities in either or both spouses. The entire process becomes far more costly — both financially and emotionally — than it needs to be. Unfortunately, our legal system, which forces couples to be adversarial parties in a traditional divorce case, can actually contribute to the high emotional and financial costs of divorce. In response to this problem, increasing numbers of family law attorneys are embracing and promoting the relatively new concept of Collaborative Divorce. At Scholl Law Firm, P.S., you will find a strong commitment to the Collaborative Divorce alternative, in which husband and wife are each represented by their own highly trained and skilled Collaborative Divorce lawyer, and the couple and the lawyers work together to resolve the divorce case without going to Court.
Collaborative Divorce is a relatively new concept that allows both husband and wife to work together with skilled professionals to resolve all issues in a divorce without the huge costs associated with traditional divorce litigation in our Court system.

What is collaborative Divorce?
Collaborative divorce is an alternative to adversarial divorce. Both parties sign an agreement at the outset and agree that no disputes will go to court. If collaboration ends — if one party wants to go to court — both attorneys are disqualified and the process is terminated. Instead of fighting against each other, the divorcing couple and their lawyers actually work together as a team to resolve the legal, financial, and emotional issues of the divorce while bypassing the court system entirely except for the final entry of the Decree of Dissolution of Marriage.
A collaborative divorce offers the following benefits:
- Save time and resources: Litigation can involve a significant amount of time and is costly to both parities. A collaborative divorce allows you to settle out of court to minimize court and lawyers’ fees.
- Devise a solution tailored to your family: If the divorcing couple cannot find a way to resolve their legal issues, a court will decide who gets what property, who pays what bills, with whom the children will reside, and other important issues that will have a tremendous impact on the family. A Collaborative Divorce allows you and your spouse to agree on a solution that works.
